As fashion gets vibrant and chic, makeup and styling too seems to be getting there. The colour palette for the season is all full of colours and not the conventional ones, but bold, bright and neon.
Neon pink, aquamarine, turquoise, sea green are the shades everyone's talking about this season. No, we are not talking about the clothes or accessories. These are the latest colours girls are picking for their makeup!
Either an eye catching shade on the lips or highlighted on the cheeks or the brow line, you can be as creative as you wish to and grab all eyes. Apart from garnering all compliments, these colours add a dash of life to an otherwise dull or toned down outfit. Also, in the hot and humid months, these shades add some glamour to the otherwise uncomfortable feel. This is something that Kangana Ranaut or Sonam Kapoor frequently do with their look - adding dashes of vibrant shades to their makeup.
This season, coloured eyeliners and eye pencils too have hot top makeup stores, and women are unafraid to add bold colours to their eyes too. But the trend if of adding just hints of hues rather than going over the top.
"Bright neon shades along with lighter pastels are totally in vogue this season. Rather than going for a too subtle or a very blingy look, going for matt or glossy shades of neons and pastels is the trend; be it for a casual look or formal or a party; girls are even going for this look for their wedding day!" says makeup artist Vidya, adding that the best part about these shades is that they go perfectly well on all skin tones, be it fair or dusky. Using just a little of these colours on your cheeks or eyelids often does the trick to create the perfect look. One can even choose a shimmering coloured mascara to add to the glam factor.
Celebrities like Lisa Haydon, Mandira Bedi, Ambika Anand, designers Masaba Gupta, Nishka Lulla, Surily Goel, socialites Queenie Dhody, Bhavna Pandey, Gauri Khan, Ramona Narang and several others have been seen sporting splashes of orange, fuchsia, burgundy, aquamarine, lilac and similar shades in their makeup.
The hints of colour work great when worn with monochrome outfits, or when matched and coordinated with similar coloured accessories.
But for these colours to look perfect and blend well with the complexion, one should remember to use the perfect makeup base - either mineral makeup or a light mousse - that will hold the colour well and also even out the complexion.
Names like MAC, Ambika Pillai, Pierre Cardin, Revlon, L'Oreal etc have great options in bold coloured makeup for the style savvy to pick from.
